New URL

Hi Everyone,

We will be changing the URL of the blog to http://incopot.blogspot.ca. We are listening to all your suggestions and hopefully with the unveiling of the improved blog we'll be able to make these changes.

The recipes from here will be moved to the new blog.

Recipe 10: French Bread Baguette Recipe




I am beyond excited writing this recipe. This was my very first time baking a baguette from scratch. It's very easy to make and the dough was so fluffy which made it way easier to knead. I doubt if I'll be going to any of the convenient stores to buy a baguette henceforth (Extra money for shoes :P).

Okay back to the business at hand :)



Ingredients:

  • Flour - 6 cups
  • Water (110 degrees) - 2cups
  • Yeast packages -2
  • Salt - 2 tablespoons
  • Sugar - 1 tablespoons
  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Egg white - 1


Preparation:

Step 1) We would first be making a yeast mix. The yeast is activated at a certain temperature and needs something to feed on, hence the sugar. Mix the water, sugar and yeast in a bowl and stir. Leave this on the side to rise for about 10-15 minutes.
  
Step 2) Pour the flour into a large mixing bowl, add olive oil, salt, egg white and stir. Pour yeast mixture into the flour mix and stir until it forms one piece (dough).

Step 3) Now the fun part - knead dough on a floured table/ cutting board for 5minutes. Place dough in a coated bowl and let it seat for an hour, this will allow the dough to rise and double in size. Ensure it is covered and placed in a warm place. I decided to put mine in the oven (microwave, whatever your preference), make sure you do not switch them on.




Step 4) After an hour, the dough should have doubled in size. Punch down dough on the floured surface, Knead dough again for 5minutes and shape it in a baguette form.  Cover, and let rise in a warm place for 30 to 40 minutes, or until its doubled in size.


Step 5) Brush with egg white. Make deep diagonal slashes across loaves every 2 inches. Cover and bake for 15-20 minutes at approximately 375 degree.


Step 6) Brush with egg white again and bake for another 20 minutes until golden brown.


And Voila, ready to be served
